Entrepreneurship Seminar: Small-Scale Mushroom
Cultivation for Beginners (Boarding School Members)
Applicant:
Lina Nur Khofifah
A. Brief Background and The Needs
All this time my project in the boarding has been running for leadership skill in the form public speaking and addition of language class that I combined with the entrepreneurial practice of using the empty field behind the boarding. I saw the field behind my boarding is empty and unkempt, lot of tall grass and need to be used. My boarding always need a lot of food supply every day, either it's vegetables, herbs, rice, and other food stuffs. So I think that empty field used to grow vegetables can help. So far several types of vegetables such as, chili, eggplant and tomato have been planted and can be harvested so as to slightly help minimize the financial expenses to buy needs. Then my boarding caretaker and I think and plan to fill the students' free time to practice small-scale entrepreneurial cultivation of mushroom in the boarding environment. If mushroom cultivation is successful then we can use the mushroom for its own needs or called food self-sufficiency. If the product of the mushrooms is quite a lot, we can be a mushroom supplier for some food stores. Mushroom cultivation planning aims to be able to have an excellent boarding product that can be sold either raw mushrooms or has been processed into snacks. If we have our own products then we can compete well with another boarding in our environment in an effort to empower human resources. But our knowledge is still lacking so we need expert speakers who are experienced about mushroom cultivation. This seminar is needed to add insight into boarding students and become knowledge to start a successful mushroom cultivation.
B. The Major Beneficiaries of The Project
This Seminar is one of the parts of Follow-on Project about the “Women Empowerment to Change Our World” with the major beneficiaries of the Project as Participants of this seminar are female boarding students. The seminar is able to provide insight and knowledge by experienced expert speaker in the mushroom business for us to implement in the mushroom cultivation plan and the utilization of empty field behind the boarding.
C. Detail Activities and What the Project Will Achieve
The major project is a leadership skill development that includes soft skill that is the ability of public speaking and language and life skill is the ability to entrepreneurship together. So far part of the project has been running that includes public speaking training and life skill practice is entrepreneurship in agriculture. We've produced some things like the goal of this project as I've explained in point A. According to point A, my boarding caretaker and I are in mushroom cultivation planning. So far, the readiness is the availability of sawdust, bran, and empty space to be a place of mushroom cultivation. The first step of mushroom cultivation is the knowledge associated with it. Through a one day seminar by an entrepreneurial expert speaker we started it all. The next day we practice for the first time the boiling of sawdust and other materials. This project will be achieved because the executor is all the female boarding students as well as the participants of the seminar. We will always connect 24 hours non-stop because we live in the same place and make it easier to coordinate. This project will always be held on Sunday as well as care for the empty field we make mini agriculture that we developed have produced several kinds of vegetables that we consume by own our needs for all the time.
